The benefits of large handled cooking utensils for people with Parkinson’s.
If you have Parkinson’s or any other movement disorder large handled cooking utensils can save you time and a lot of mess, these utensils are a dream come true for the shaky chef. I make enough mess as it is the cause of my Parkinson’s, so trying to use small handled cooking utensils can be quite a challenge. Anything to make my life or my love of cooking easier as a dream come true! I’d like to share my favorite large handled cooking utensils with few.
They are OXO Good Grips they have a large soft grip made of Santoprene which is a processed rubber that has a soft feel and bends and conforms to the hand of the user for better grip and control. Also, it wont to break down in cooking oil and is dishwasher safe. My wife has not been able to destroy them yet; so that’s saying something. HaHa. But seriously the large handled cooking utensils are the great help for people with movement disorders. When I use these utensils I have better control and I’m able to perform the task I need to do in the kitchen even if my hands are shaking.
There are several brands of these utensils on the market today in lots of different price ranges. You can find them in plastic, wood, metal, or even bamboo and in a variety of colors. These utensils are great for any cook no matter if you have Parkinson’s or any other movement disorder.
So if you think these could help you in the kitchen you should try them, especially if you have a problem with movement. Unfortunately, if you have a problem with cooking (like if you’re not a very good cook ) these utensils probably won’t help. But there’s always cooking lessons.
